Can't launch Internet Explorer...?

All I get is: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet.

The website is encountering problems.

There might be a typing error in the address.

When clicking on: Diagnose Connection Problems, it confirms I'm connected via wireless (LAN) and suggests a firewall might be blocking it.

Have Norton as well as AVG, SpyBot Search %26amp; Destroy and Spy Sweeper. I may have also inadvertently blocked access when IE was trying to access the net (via Norton or one of the others)... but I'm not sure...

Suggestions appreciated...

Thanx!

I assume by AVG you mean AVG antivirus. You should not run two or more active (full time) virus protection products at the same time.

Norton and Spy Sweeper are resource hogs. I would delete them both. Start with the Windows Firewall. It will not block any browser.

I would only use the following:

Start with Windows Firewall. I have tried six other firewalls and went back to the Windows Firewall after running into different technical problems with each of them: pages would need to be refreshed several times to fully load; slow booting; configuration problems; and reduced computer performance.

You also need full time (active) virus protection and full time spyware protection.

All the following programs are free.

--------------------------------------...

Full Time (Active) Virus Protection

If you do not have active virus protection, install only one. All are excellent.

AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition

or

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

or

AOL Active Virus Shield

--------------------------------------...

Full Time (Active) Spyware Protection

Windows Defender

--------------------------------------...

Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-a...

Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy (update + immunize + scan)

Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper

After installation: update + scan + immunize

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirro...

SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click “enable all protection”.

SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)

http://www.superantispyware.com/

CCleaner: Do not install toolbar option

Removes tracking cookies, unneeded files, history

In options.

Set to run when computer starts.

Place cookies you want to keep in save list

========================

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"%26gt; Properties %26gt; System Restore Tab %26gt; Check box turn off system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.

--------------------------------------...

Additional run this time and monthly.

Microsoft Update "Custom Mode" install everything

Microsoft OneCare Live, run “full service scan”

Updates windows, virus and spyware scan, disk cleanup, disk fragmentation (if needed), backs up registry and then cleans registry, and checks for open firewall ports

Malicious Software Removal Tool (run “full scan”)

Can't launch Internet Explorer...?download windows xp internet explorer

Go to file and uncheck work offline if it is checked.

Go for mozilla firefox, man. It's da bomb.
First, troubleshoot connectivity. Open a command prompt. (Start -%26gt; Run -%26gt; type "cmd" without the quotation marks)

Type: ping microsoft.com

and press enter.

If the request times out, you don't have connectivity. If you get a response to ping, you have connectivity.

If you don't have connectivity, try rebooting the modem and router by turning them both off and shutting down the computer...wait a minute, then turn on the router...wait a minute, then turn on the modem...wait a minute, then restart your computer.

If you do have connectivity, check your firewall to see which applications are blocked.
