Why isn't Internet Explorer working although I have an internet connection?

Other programs such as Firefox is working. When I open Internet Explorer, I get the message:

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet.

The website is encountering problems.

There might be a typing error in the address. "

I am using Vista, so no wonder something has gone wrong. Explorer stopped working after I installed a Windows automatic update.

Does anyone have a clue what has gone wrong?

Thanks!

It's probably the webpage you are trying to connect to - this is a STANDARD message that comes up ANY time you cannot get to a page...

Go to Tools-%26gt;Internet Options... What does it have as your "Home Page"???

Change this to a valid page - something like "http://answers.yahoo.com" - and you should be fine ;););)

Sounds like one of the following:

1. The settings in IE for internet connection have been screwed up - try opening Tools-Internet options-Connections Tab-Lan Settings (if you have ADSL) and make sure it is set to auto detect settings.

2. Your firewall doesn't recognise the "new" IE application and has denied it external access

If you want a better browsing experience altogether then go to http://mybranding.info/firefox.php and download the faster and more secure FireFox - you wont look back I promise!
I am pretty sure you have some proxy settings go wrong...

Click Tools -%26gt; internet options -%26gt; Connections -%26gt; lan settings -%26gt; remove any proxy server and try again..

if not, then Tools -%26gt; internet options -%26gt; advanced -%26gt; rest should work
its happening because there must have occured some error while browsing.
