Hi guys,
This is doing my head in
Just to note I run Zonealarm!
When I use Internet Explorer 7 I can't successfully "Run" a program, document or anything, when I choose to download.
Even if I choose to 'Save', it downloads then offers the option of opening direct, the same error message comes up, which is
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
I'm the only user of this computer and I am an administrator.
The file I’m trying to access is a .doc file for the NHS website! I can download, save and open from the folder, but I’d like it to open in the browser,
Furthermore, if anyone can solve this too, I can’t open PDF files from websites in the browser, either!
Cheers

DOWNLOADING: Could just be that the download is actually on your computer already. I would go to your folders and do a search for it there.
PDF: Are you sure you have the most current version of Adobe Reader installed for your system? I had Adobe and was not able to view PDF's until I realized that I didn't' have the most current version.
Also found this on Microsoft. com:
IE 7 ADD-ONS
1- Open your Adobe (Any Version you may have but I recommend an update to the latest reader).
2- Go to Edit%26gt;Preferences
3-Click on Internet in the left hand menu (it might be under “ Browser Integration” in older versions).
4-Uncheck the box next to “Display PDF in Browser”, so your PDF opens directly in Adobe if you click on a PDF link not in browser.
**Perhaps, you need to check that your box IS checked to "Display PDF in Browser"

even i havethe same problem. help meeeeeeeeeeeeeee. iam using mozilla firefox.
Well you need Adobe Acrobat reader to read the PDF files!
Truthfully, if you brought that machine to my shop the first thing I would do is to turn off zonealarm. That might solve your problem but if not try tuning down the security in IE 7.

Re: Reading PDF files - you need Adobe Reader. Go to
http://adobe.downloadmetropolis.com/
It is absolutely free.
Re: Inability to save and open files from the internet - occasionally I cannot copy/paste directly from the article in front of me, but often times if you look on the top-right, there is a button for "printable version" from which I can copy and paste into Word.
I prefer not to run directly from an online site. I opt to "save" and run it from my PC.
You might just be having difficulty because of your setting for cookies. Some web sites will not allow you to copy or access if you do not allow cookies. In Tools, Internet Options, I have Privacy set to medium. Suggest you check yours out in case the problem is there.
Yep,
Shut down zonealarm and reduce the security level in tools/internet options.
Zonealarm is good - but it doesn't always tell you what it's doing!
Also, when downloading, first hold down the ctrl key, then commence download.
remove internet explorer 7 . i have tried it, and later on, i noticed that it doesn't support many of the things that the original one can support. you will have problems.
You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE7. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.
